Dear Parents,
As many of you may be aware, a very large storm is heading towards the Metro area. Based upon the weather alerts, this massive storm is expected to arrive around noon tomorrow (Wednesday) bringing with it 30-40 mph winds and temperatures as low as 20 to 30 degree below zero. Due to the size of the storm, I am confident that it is only a matter of know when the storm will hit, vs. if the storm will hit.
That being said, the following decisions have been made:
The academy will close tomorrow at 3:30pm. There WILL NOT be any extended care offered. Please make sure you are here no later than 4:00 PM so that all of our families and teachers can get home safely before the roads become dangerous to drive on.
Should the storm arrive early, we will dismiss at 11:30AM so that safe travel may be had by all. You will receive a phone call should this be necessary. Please take the time to make the appropriate plans, should early dismissal take place. Safety is our number one concern at this point.
Please follow Channel 4, Channel 9 and our web site for any and all future closings.
As always, please feel free to call with any questions or concerns.
Many Blessings to you all,
Mrs. Collins-Principal

Dear Families:
First Family Academy is about to wrap up a wonderful week devoted to Missions. With that said, a few weeks ago we sent out a letter about Operation Christmas Child. We are extremely excited about participating in Operation Christmas Child for our third year!!! FFA students, parents, and teachers get to partner with this wonderful organization that touches the lives of so many children and their families around the world. This year the boxes will be sent to the Middle East and Asia.
Friday, November 6, 2009, First Family Academy will provide EVERY child with a box. We will be sending home flyers and instruction information on how you and your families can participate in Operation Christmas Child. Our goal this year is 250 boxes…..so feel free to fill up multiple boxes, as this is a great way to involve the entire family!!! The National Collection Week is November 16 through the 20th.
Our students, who have participated in the past, were so excited to be able to help fill their boxes with small toys, warm hats and mittens, personal hygiene items, crayons, markers, coloring books and balls. They can also include a letter and a photograph of themselves. Very often, the receiving child will respond. We will provide copies of a letter that you can use for your boxes.
Please help the “Academy Kids” make an eternal difference in the lives of needy children and their families. What a wonderful tradition for families to participate in during the Christmas season! If you have any questions, please see Carol or any of our teachers. We will be happy to assist you.
Cordially,
Carol Gault

Dear Parents,
Fall is in the air…and the trees are absolutely beautiful! With that said, Thanksgiving will soon be here. This year, our Thanksgiving Feast will be held on November 19, 2009, starting promptly at 7PM. The academy will provide the turkey!!! As a special treat, each class will be performing a short routine.
In preparation for the feast, it is important that we know how many guests you will be bringing. Sign-up sheets are hanging on the classroom doors. Friends and Family are welcome to attend this event, but please make sure we know in advance who is coming so that plenty of turkey can be prepared.
To make sure we have a beautiful spread of food, we are asking each family to bring a side dish. Each classroom has been assigned a “side dish”. The list is below:
• Two’s (Ms. Chris): Bread dish
• Preschool (Ms. Amanda/Ms. Cass): dessert
• Pre-K (Mrs. Braswell): salad dish
• Pre-K (Mrs. Jonathan): salad dish
• Kindergarten (Mrs. Lord): Veggie dish
• First/Second Grade (Mrs. Smart): veggie dish
You may sign up for your dish on your child’s classroom door. Please keep in mind that if you are bringing a large group (6 or more), to please consider bringing additional side dishes.
We look forward to seeing you there!
Blessings,
Shelta J. Collins-Principal

Dear Parents,
I am excited to announce that during the month of October, First Family Academy will offer TRIPLE REWARDS on any family you refer for enrollment. That’s right….Instead of earning $50 towards your tuition, you will earn $150!!!!
Here’s how the plan works: For any family who enrolls during the month of October, your account will be automatically credited $150 AFTER the child has been in attendance for 60 days. It’s that simple!
In closing, I want to thank you for choosing FFA for your child’s educational needs. We know you had several choices to choose from in selecting a school….it’s an honor that you are here!
Blessings,
Shelta J. Collins, MEd

Service Opportunity! Jeans on Friday's
What better way to have children learn about serving others than by doing it! We have come up with a great way for us to support one of our former teachers who is currently a Missionary in the Philippines. Miss Katy Herman taught first and second grade at First Family Academy last year is now teaching Second grade at Faith Academy in Manila. We would like to bless her this Christmas with a special gift from the students here at First Family Academy.
On Friday's your student can wear jeans if they bring in a dollar! This is NOT a no uniform day but rather a day where your student can wear jeans with an ACADEMY spirit wear shirt or their normal uniform shirts! If your child comes to school in something other than jeans and a spirit shirt or uniform shirt we will be calling the parent to bring in their uniform.
This is a great way to support a former teacher and give your children the opportunity to wear jeans on Friday's! It's in the works to have Miss Herman contact us during missionary week so that we can present her with her Christmas present! Let's all follow the call of Christ to reach the world by doing our little part from here in the state of Kansas!
In closing, let me thank Mrs. Erin Jonathan for organizing this special event!
God Bless-
Shelta J. Collins, MEd

Dear Parents,
The school year is off to a wonderful start! I just wanted to take this opportunity to remind you that our first Parent Teacher Meeting (PTM) is this Thursday, September 3, 2009 at 7:00pm. PTM’s take place approximately every 4-6 weeks and is designed to keep you, the parent informed, as to what is going on within your child’s classroom. Furthermore, you will get to see how their day works from start, to finish. So be on time, as “class” will start promptly at 7:00pm! J
Childcare is not provided, so please make sure you make arrangements for your children, as we do not want any distractions during this meeting. Please know that it is ok if only one parent shows up.
In closing, the teachers are very excited about the upcoming PTM. Truly, these meetings promote a partnership in your child’s education. You will not want to miss out on this very important meeting!

Dear Parents,
We had a wonderful start to the 2009-2010 school term today! As we begin
our third academic year, I am thrilled with the direction of First Family
Academy. It was joy to see all of the students today.walking proud in their
uniforms! We have truly missed them! Please find attached a few pictures
we took of the children. (and see the slideshow on our photo gallery page)
This week, the students will focus on learning their new routines and
establish good classroom habits. Furthermore, the teachers will begin to
conduct pre-assessments on each child within our program. We forward to
partnering with you and your child through this/her academic journey this
year!
I would also like to take this opportunity to remind all parents that
beginning this year, you may not park in or around the carport area. Not
only will this prevent congestion in the AM/PM, but it promotes safety. If
you plan on walking into the building, you need to park in a parking stall.
School Supplies: If you forgot your school supplies, that's ok! Just bring
then tomorrow.
School is over at 3:30pm. Please be prompt in picking up your students,
unless they are enrolled in our extended care program. If a student is not
picked up by 3:45pm, your child will be waiting for you in the school office
and your account will be charged the extended care fee. The academy will
give everyone this week to adjust to their new schedules, but beginning
Monday, August 24, 2009 the extended care policy will go into effect. If
you are interested in the extended care program, please call the school for
more details. As of today, we only have four more slots available.
As stated, we are very excited for the upcoming school year!
God Bless!

Dear Parents,
First Family Academy is committed to excellence in all areas of academics, including the arts and music. With that said, I took the summer to meet with several administrators, music teachers, and Deans of Music in an effort to develop a music program which is second to none.
While last year we did many great things musically, across the board, every educator I met with agreed that a different approach should be made with children 3 years through Third grade. Therefore, we have hired a permanent Music Teacher to our staff: Mrs. Stephanie Hunter.
Because we are a new school, I prayed that God would provide us with a teacher who had experience developing a music program within the private school sector. Well, God has delivered….and more! Not only does our teacher have several years of experience…but she has literally developed a successful music program for a Christian school in Alberta, Georgia that grew to hundreds of children! She plays guitar, teaches piano, and so much more! Please find attached a brief introductory letter from Mrs. Hunter. I am beyond excited to introduce her to you!!
As we look to this year, a few changes have been made to Music program which is uniquely designed to be age-appropriate for our students. Mrs. Hunter is committed to building a program in phases to ensure a strong foundation that will endure over the long term. I’ve seen what her end result is…and I am positive you will love it! Her plan this year is to focus on vocal skills and theory. Ms. Stephanie has even prepared a music program for two-year-olds!!! With time, we will incorporate small group instrumental instruction, such as piano, violin, etc. But until that time, FFA will not offer Piano instruction. Therefore, your music fee has been reduced from $80 per month to $40….or $10/week.
In closing, I can not even begin to tell you how excited I am about Mrs. Hunter joining the academy team. Her passion for music is contagious! Please call the school if you have any questions.
Blessings to you and your family!
